Why Telos
No student should be a face in the crowd
Middle and high school are the years when a faith that was handed down either becomes a student's own — or quietly slips away. In a big room, it's easy to go unnoticed. We don't want that for a single student, so we've built Telos around knowing each one by name.
Who we are
They already belong
Most of our students grew up in the life of this church — covenant children, part of the household of God before they could choose it. We build everything around that: Telos isn't a program hoping students will one day join the real church. It is the church, forming people who already belong to it.
And if your family is new — you're not standing outside that door. Belonging here was never something anyone earned their way in to. It was given. There's room in this household for you too.

Every week
매주
A Teacher who knows them
Every student belongs to a grade-level Care Group, led by a Teacher whose job is to know them by name.
What we're forming
Head, heart, hands — and a body
Four dimensions of a whole person being shaped by the Gospel. Every environment — Sunday, Friday, small groups — is pointed at all four at once.
Head
머리
Conviction
신념
Do they know what they believe, and why? A faith they can give an account of — not one they've only inherited.
Heart
마음
Character
인격
Is the Gospel actually reshaping their loves and their motives — who they are when no one is watching?
Body
몸
Community
공동체
Is their faith growing up inside a real body — older and younger, not just their own grade? No one matures in Christ alone. We're forming students who belong to a whole church, not just a youth room.
Hands
손
Commission
사명
Every disciple is sent. Are they serving where God has placed them — and learning to make disciples themselves, at school, at home, and wherever they're sent next?
For parents

Your student will be known
Three layers of care surround every student — each doing something the others can't.
Jr. High
중등부
Buddies
버디 (Buddies)
Older students who come alongside younger ones, so no one walks in alone. Belonging first.

Every student

Care Groups
(Care Groups)
A grade-level group led by a caring adult whose whole job is to know your student by name — to listen, check in, and walk with them personally.
Fridays
Discipleship Classes
(Discipleship Classes)
A class for your student's own grade every Friday night, working through one book with their teachers — so they can say what they believe, and why.
The journey
Seven years, three seasons
A path from the first year of middle school to graduation — designed for who a student actually is at each age.

Two milestones along the way: Confirmation in the fall of 9th grade, and Charis Membership at the end of 12th.

Discipleship Classes — Fridays this fall
Every Friday night, students from Charis and Choong Hyun eat dinner together, worship, and then go to a class for their grade — What's Up for 6th–8th, Understanding the Faith for 9th–12th. This fall is a pilot: Nov 6 through Dec 18.
매주 금요일 저녁, 충현선교교회와 Charis Mission Church 학생들이 함께 저녁을 먹고 예배를 드린 뒤 학년별 클래스로 나뉩니다 — 6–8학년은 What's Up, 9–12학년은 Understanding the Faith입니다.

A word from our pastor
Our greatest desire is to see every student transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
When I think about Telos, I don't think about a program. I think about names — the 6th grader walking in for the first time, the 10th grader asking hard questions out loud, the senior getting ready for what comes next.
I can't know all of them the way a good Teacher knows their few — which is exactly why we've built Telos so that someone does. Teachers who know each student, older students who make sure no one stands alone, parents we want to stand beside rather than replace.
If you're wondering whether there's a place here for your family — there is. Come and see.
— Pastor SJ Jahng

FAQ
Common questions
Who is Telos for?
Any student in grades 6 through 12. You don’t have to be a member of the church, you don’t have to believe everything yet, and you don’t have to have it all figured out. Come with your questions.
Will my student know anyone?
From day one, every student is placed in a grade-level Care Group with a Teacher whose job is to know them by name. And if they’re in middle school, older students called Buddies come alongside them too — not to teach or fix, just so no one stands alone. Belonging comes before everything else.
What will my student be taught?
The Gospel, first and always — and then the whole of the Christian faith, taught in a way that grows with them. Younger students learn the big story of the Bible; older ones learn to ask hard questions of it and give an account of what they believe. We’re not here to entertain your student toward a decision. We’re forming them toward maturity in Christ.
Is there a cost?
Weekly gatherings are free to attend. Retreats and some special events have a cost, which we share ahead of time — and we never want it to keep a student from coming, so reach out if it’s ever a concern.
